A last minute best man speech is not a different genre. It is the same three minute job with the overwriting stripped out. You do not need a week. You need one story, one sincere sentence, and a toast, in that order, before you run out of night.
Skip the photo montage, the inside jokes that need a translator, and the dictionary definition. All of those are what people add when they have too much time.
Type the trip, the night, or the sentence he said. Generate. Read it standing up. Cut what you trip on. That is the entire remaining craft.
How it works
0-10 min: one story only
The funniest thing that actually happened, or the thing you admire that you can prove. Not both if you are tired.
10-20 min: generate at two minutes
Leave the length where it is. A late best man who goes long is the speech people remember for the wrong reason.
20-40 min: out loud, twice
Mark the pause before the sincere line. That is the line that dies if you rush.
40-50 min: cards, then stop editing
Every extra joke you add after midnight will be the one that does not land.
