Thank You Speech for Parents: Wedding Generator

Two minutes, said to their faces, with flowers in your hands. Answer seven questions about what your parents actually did. Opening free.

Say thank you to them, not about them

Most thank you speeches to parents fail the same way: they talk about the parents to the room. The version that lands turns and speaks to them, by name, in the second person. Everyone else gets to overhear it, which is exactly why it moves them.

Pick one scene per parent. Not 'you always supported me', but the night someone waited up, the lift to an exam, the thing said at the worst moment. One concrete detail is worth ten adjectives.

Decide the order and the flowers in advance. Usually each person thanks their own parents first, then the other couple's, then grandparents if there are any to thank. Hand over the flowers at the end of each name, not all at once.

How it works

  1. 1. Pick your role and say who you are thanking

One set of parents, both, a step-parent, a grandmother who raised you. The draft follows who is actually standing there.

  2. 2. Answer seven questions about them

One memory each. What they gave up. What you only understood later. What you want them to hear at the wedding.

  3. 3. Read the outline and opening free

Structure plus the first 150 words, before paying anything.

  4. 4. Unlock the rest if it sounds like you

Full draft, two tones, and delivery notes.

What the output sounds like

To a mother, one detail
"Mum, you never told me you were tired. I found out when I was twenty and saw you fall asleep standing up at the kitchen counter. Thank you for letting me not know."
To a father, with the flowers
"Dad, you do not say much. You drove four hours on a Sunday to fix a tap in my first flat and left before I could make you tea. These are for you, and the tea is on me."
To the other side's parents
"Ewa, Jan, we have been on first-name terms for a year, but I felt at home at your table from the first lunch. Thank you for raising Tom. These flowers are for Ewa, and for Jan there is a promise that I will stop refilling the soup without asking."

Questions people actually ask

How long should a thank you speech to parents be?
About two minutes for both sets of parents. Thirty to forty seconds each is plenty.
Who speaks, the bride, the groom or both?
Either, or both together. The wizard asks who you are, so the draft is in your voice and says 'we' only if you speak together.
Do I thank the other side's parents too?
Yes, briefly, and by name. It is the easiest way to make a new family feel welcome.
Is this the same as the wedding speech?
No. It is a short moment inside the evening. If you also give a main speech, write it separately and keep the thanks here.
Is it free?
Outline and opening free, no card. You only pay if you want the full speech, and you see the price first.
